Abstract
The dermatologic application of natural ingredients in skin care has evolved significantly in the past two decades. Research into the mechanisms and biochemistry of natural ingredients has lead to the development of new technologies and formulations that provide a therapeutic benefit in the treatment of dermatologic conditions and the aging process. Providing optimal patient outcomes continues to be a challenge in the treatment and management of dermatologic conditions. Most physicians and patients are interested in doing everything possible to optimize the treatment of their skin disease. This is especially important in treating patients with chronic disorders such as eczema, acne, psoriasis, rosacea, photodamage and the negative effects of aging. Physicians and patients often explore the therapeutic benefits of natural ingredients as alternative or complementary treatments to conventional methods. It is important that dermatologists remain up-to-date on the research and new advances in skin care products with natural ingredients.
